Sebastian Calibar

Sebastian Calibar’s art elicits intrigue, exudes sexy. At only 30 years old, this Chilean-born artist started his career on the streets of Miami, exploring the city’s abandoned spaces and brightening them up with his unique artistic style, until in what could be seen as a dark cloud – an arrest for painting inside an abandoned building – turned serendipitous. The police officer paged through Calibar’s notebooks and saw his talent for what it was – genuine, of a higher caliber. This incident triggered a change in the trajectory of his life by equipping him with the confidence, tools, and skills to dedicate his life to art. The rest, you could say, was history. Since then, Calibar has showcased his work in a variety of exhibitions, sold countless commissions, and painted murals for prominent Miami businesses.

Growing up before the Internet, Sebastian stumbled upon a book about street art. The vibrant urban scenes stuck out to him, and he reminisced about his time in Chile where he was exposed to graffiti. He later found himself mesmerized by Miami’s emerging art scene, with its irrepressible creative energy. As a teenager, he spent many afternoons meandering the streets, encouraging his peers to paint alongside him, so they could feed off of each other’s ideas. Soon enough, his work stood out to a more elite crowd of art curators, and he took the opportunity to make creating art his life’s work.

Over the years, Sebastian showcased his work at various charity auctions and special events, including 2018’s Art Basel. In 2019, Calibar won a competition put on by F.A.M.E. Worldwide, which allowed him to showcase his artwork at Art Basel that year as well. There, he displayed 6 larger-than-life canvas pieces along with rawer works painted on abandoned TOW AWAY signs, consisting mainly of portraits of lively, gracefully defiant women.

Sebastian’s ability to adapt to a client’s vision has opened up his skillset to a variety of media. His signature style is uniquely versatile. Though he creates a variety of urban pieces, he just as freely comes out with fine art - Greek and Roman statuesque paintings, abstract expressionist pieces, charcoal portraits, and contemporary Surrealist works, always with the goal of achieving realism.

Calibar’s versatility and fearlessness in exploring new styles is the central driver of his success. He understands that creativity flows freely when you just create without fearing amorphous ideas about perfection. He wants to inspire young people to follow, and to be fearless about pursuing their creative dreams. His ultimate philosophy is that art belongs everywhere.
